Sound and Fury Festival Kicks off in LA

The staple west coast hardcore festival Sound and Fury returns bigger than ever in the heart of LA. Sponsored by street wear staple Brain Dead, 38 bands will hit the stage during the 2 day festival kicking off at Los Angeles’s Exposition Park. Multiple kick off concerts and a Sunday aftershow expand Sound and Fury to be full weekend affair.

Highlights include hardcore legends Terror, a reunion set by Pity Sex (who have been on hiatus since 2016) and the weekend close out with a farewell set by bay area hardcore favorites, Gulch.

While the majority of bands fall within the hardcore genre, the line up is sprinkled with enough doses of pop-punk, post grunge, and indie rock to draw a wide range of music lovers to Exposition Park.

Bands you’ll want to see:

Scowl - Back in their home state after a hot year of touring supporting Limp Bizkit, Destroy Boys, and a European run playing with artists such as Touche Amore, Zulu and One Step Closer. Scowl is becoming a favorite in the scene. Front-woman Kat Moss brings insatiable style and fierce energy backed by strong groove driven bass and guitar riffs and killer drumming. All make every performance as exciting as the last. There is a reason Scowl made the cover of Revolver Magazine. Don’t miss their Saturday set.

Drug Church - Hot off this springs release of Hygiene (Pure Noise Records) which has been a large follow up to 2018’s successful Cheer. Hygiene is chock full of some of the catchiest guitar riffs that the group has conceived and lyrics that will strike a chord with any working class person fighting for a place in the world while facing the depressing state of the world we live in.

No Pressure - Fronted by The Story So Far’s Parker Cannon, No Pressure is the freshest breath in pop punk at the moment. There is no doubt that if No Pressure was conceived 20 years ago they would be touring stadiums world wide with the likes of Blink 182. Check out their self titled full length, dropped on Triple B Records this past June.

Terror - The vets of the line up, Terror has been a staple in hardcore for the past 20 years. Their most recent album Pain Into Power (Pure Noise Records) further cements their icon status. This group haven’t lightened up from the heavy sound fans love, even this deep into their 20 year career. Catch them Sunday evening.

Militarie Gun  - A super group of sorts, Militarie Gun is comprised with members from bands including Drug Church,Modern Color, and Regional Justice Center. Militarie Gun brings catchy riffs and hard hitting vocals that will get stuck in your head. Like Scowl, Militarie Gun had their first taste of stadium rock while supporting Limp Bizkit on tour this past spring. On top of 3 solid Eps, Militarie Gun teamed up with Dazy to create the Pitchfork praised feel good rock anthem “Pressure Cooker” and recently released a John Lennon cover. All proving these cats have the versatility to be a long standing act.

Pity Sex - Returning for their first show since their split in 2016, Pity Sex brings a much  needed contrast with their indie rock sound to Sundays line up full of the heavier bands of the two days. It’s exciting to see Pity Sex hit the stage again and brings anticipation for the bands future.
