Immersive and Intimate, Soccer Mommy performs in Denver

Soccer Mommy arrived in Denver Saturday night as her “Touring, Forever” Tour made its way out west with two shows in Colorado with support by Canadian indie-pop favorites TOPS. Following the highly acclaimed June release of “Sometimes, Forever” (Loma Vista Records) Soccer Mommy was greatly anticipated to return to Denver.

Soccer Mommy kicked things off with “Bones”, the first track off of “Sometimes Forever”. The band were coated in a gorgeous psychedelic light display almost mirroring the style of Sometimes “Forevers album” cover as they settled into the set.

Like the visuals of the light display the set list had much depth and contrast, personifying Sophie Allison’s striking songwriting. “Sometimes Forever” took fresh dives into sonic places that we haven’t seen from Soccer Mommy before, and these moments translated graciously onstage. Playing “Unholy Affliction” and “Darkness Forever” mid-set were a perfect shift in mood. The sophisticated dream like weavings of the tracks mesmerizing the crowd. The setlist eased back into less experimental but just as striking songs. All leading to the crowd being treated to an encore ending with fan favorite “Your Dog”. The setlist was perfect, hitting a variety tracks from “Sometimes Forever” and prior releases. The cherry on top was Allison’s guitar work, throwing herself about as she tore through the amazing riffs we’ve heard throughout all her releases.

Sophie Allison’s songwriting creates tracks that are deeply intimate, relatable, and conjure up innumerable emotions. This stunning songwriting is not lost in a live setting as Soccer Mommy injects these feelings directly into the crowd, making a packed Saturday night concert feel small and personal.
