August Burns Red Bring Their 20 Year Celebration to Denver.
In less than 2 weeks August Burns Red will release their new album ‘Death Below’. In the wave of metalcore bands birthed in the age of Myspace, few others are still releasing music. Yet none are bringing massive shows to fans the way August Burns Red are 20 years into their career.
On a massive drum riser plastered with photos documenting the life of August Burns Red. Legendary drummer Matt Greiner ripped his way through a pummeling drum solo as the crowd errupts. The rest of the band returned to the stage launching into the encore with the triumphant song ‘White Washed’, A song that is the utter exemplification of the masterful musicianship that has kept August Burns Red at the top of the metalcore genre for 20 long years.
As monumental as this tour is for the band, their live performance is just as monumental. The blistering 18 long set didn’t lose an ounce of energy once and the crowd’s energy matched. Playing songs from each of the bands past 9 releases and a few from their upcoming, fans were treated to killer songs no matter what album may be their favorite.
From the moment ABR hit the stage and blazed into their first track ‘Fault Lines’ A plethora of crowd surfers floated over bodies to the front of the stage. Security were on their toes all night, catching and guiding concert goers back into the crowd. Fans young and old filled the venue. Young kids were on the shoulders of aging metal head parents, both equally enjoying the proving to be timeless music of August Burns Red.
Between the ripping setlist of songs highlighting every album from the bands long tenure August Burns Red’s vocalist Jake Luhrs took time to note all the venues the band had played through out Denver. Informing the sold out crowd of nearly 4000 that tonight’s show at Colfax’s Fillmore Auditorium is the largest venue the band has headlined in Colorado, and is the largest show of the tour.
ABR is joined on this tour by Scottish metal band ‘Bleed from Within’ and fellow metalcore icons ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. Both bands did an amazing job driving the energy up before August Burns Red hit the stage. Veterans The Devil Wears Prada are nearing their 18th year as a band so it felt fitting for them to share the stage with a band they’ve played along side throughout their career.
With a new album on the horizon August Burn Red’s 20th anniversary tour is not a victory lap. It is a milestone as they continue deeper into their career and further solidify their status as some of the most talented artists in metal.
August Burns Red will continue touring the US and Canada through May, so be sure to catch this massive tour when it arrives in a city near you.
Be sure to check out ‘Death Below’ when it releases on March 24th via SharpTone Records.
