My Flipturn experience before this show had been admiring them from afar. I’ll be honest, I’m guilty of spending entire days listening to August on repeat. Yeah, I’m one of those. After seeing them at the intimate Schubas Tavern in Chicago, I’m going to need to snatch up Lollapalooza tickets ASAP so I can sing my heart out with them again this July.

Dillon Basse is the perfect frontman, connecting with the crowd and his band mates- especially during one of my favorite moments- what felt like a mini jam session during one of their new songs, Playground. Between the bass, impeccable drums, and the insanely enthusiastic crowd I could feel the Schubas Tavern floorboards bending and bouncing with the beat. As an anime fan I was, of course, over the moon to hear their song Space Cowboy, a nod to Hajime Yatate’s Cowboy Bebop. Despite cries for an encore from the crowd, the grungy crooner closed out the night with August. I think everyone there would agree with me: July cannot come soon enough.
